I’ve finally gotten around to revamping my little website. I started this whole thing a few years back as a way to share my small thoughts with people of the world. Since then my life has evolved into an entirely different animal so I thought it was time for my website to do the same.
Over the coming year this will be a place to find ideas in the form of poems, prose and illustrations posted by me on a daily basis. Some of these posts might be old to you, some might be brand new. Whatever the case I hope you enjoy them. If you do enjoy them feel free to share them. I love sharing. Also I’m going to try to be better about posting more photos and videos and glimpses from my life’s journeys. I hope you enjoy those too.
Thanks for all of your support!
Love, Dallas
In conjunction with my newly revamped internet-ery I’ve started contributing a weekly poem/illustration to the The World’s Best Ever, a fantastic arts and culture site run out of NYC. The column is called “The Greatest Writer Alive,” because I think that is a funny thing to call a column. They’ll be posting exclusive pieces every Friday afternoon. Tell a friend!
I did an interview for Tank Magazine a little while ago which was great because I got interviewed by a child. If you are thinking of starting a magazine make sure to keep a child handy to make interviews extra special.
Wish to Walk is an organization I partnered with a while back through my own foundation Awesome World. They are located in Australia and are doing wonderful things to raise money for children with spinal disabilities. To help in supporting this cause they’ve been selling copies of An Awesome Book via their website, so if you live in Australia and want to save money on ordering, time on shipping, and also help contribute to a really great charity you should buy the book here… instead of from me… all the way in Los Angeles, California, USA.
Also, if you work for/with a charity nationally or internationally and you would like to collaborate with the Awesome World Foundation you should email me- I’m all ears!
I’ve gotten a lot of calls and emails lately about the new Casey Affleck/Jaoquin Phoenix “documentary” I’m Still Here. There’s a pretty fantastic scene in the movie where Phoenix reads aloud from a copy of An Awesome Book. Weird? Certainly! Awesome? Also certainly! If you haven’t seen the movie yet and were looking for a reason, maybe seeing something weird/awesome like that would be enough to motivate you.
A while back an amazing Australian arts magazine called Monster Children asked me to write an article about how to make a kids book. This is a question I get asked a lot via email by people looking to write something for the first time. I put this article up in PDF form because I think it gets to the root of what it means to make anything for the first time. Please enjoy and share with others.
Hey everyone in the world. I made a new book and I’m really proud of it. It’s called “An Awesome Book of Thanks!” It’s about being thankful. It comes out November 11th but you can pre-order it now, or read it for free if you’d like. Please share this video around to everyone you know, repost as much as you can, read the book and tell me what you think. I’m so thankful for all the support you have given me over the past few years and am looking forward to sharing this new book with you all! - Love, Dallas
If you live in Los Angeles, or are going to be near Los Angeles this weekend you should come to this. It will be awesome!
Thanks to the Berrics for all the support. Go over there to watch a nice video profile on what I’ve been cooking up this past year. And once again, if you are in LA tonight you should come to my brand new book release party! I’d love to see you!
In case you didn’t see the Casey Affleck/Joaquin Phoenix film I’m Still Here when it was in theaters I decided to post this pretty fantastic scene for your viewing pleasure. JP + Awesome Book = totally nuts!
A little while ago I got approached by this NBC television show called School Pride. The show is sort of an “Extreme Home Makeover” but for schools that have fallen into disrepair. They asked me if I wanted to go to downtown Los Angeles and paint a gigantic mural in the outdoor cafeteria of a Boyle Heights middle school. What fun! Over the next five days, using about fifty gallons of paint, some amazing friends and I painted a series of humongous murals that I hope will last the school for generations to come. If you want to see the painting in action, or watch what I look like when I try to interact with reality television hosts, the show airs tonight on NBC at 8pm.
If you didn’t get a chance to see it last week you should definitely check out the video for the contest I hosted with The Berrics. The idea was that I would give away copies of An Awesome Book! and An Awesome Book of Thanks! based on how many copies Luis Tolentino could ollie. For those of you unfamiliar with Luis Tolentino… watch the video … it will blow your mind.
