Hey everyone, SUPER BIG NEWS! Check it this crazy amazing super awesome thing that just happened to my life!!!! STOKED!!
Hey everyone,
In celebration of my new deal with Harper Collins I’ll be hitting the road next month to go on tour. I’ll be visiting the east coast of the US SEPT. 10TH-18TH and I’d love to come and read to you and give away some books!
If you live on the east coast or have a friend or relative who does, please drop us a line.
As I’ve noted before: THIS ISN’T A TRADITIONAL KID’S BOOK TOUR
I want to read in as many rad places as possible:
Schools
Hospitals
Colleges
Libraries
Parks
Punk clubs
In the woods
On a boat
Fun places, with fun people who want to share in the joy of reading…
Just email us and let us know where!
Also, as an added bonus: If you, your school, or your local community gathering space has a wall in need of a mural, we will be painting murals up and down the coast.
Hope to see you soon.
Love, Dallas
Wow! I’ve just gotten word that holiday shipments of An Awesome Book came so fast that we’ve already sold out the entire run reserved for the Christmas season. NUTS! Sadly, the new edition will not be available until the full scale Harper Collins re-release in 2012.
So sorry to all of you who were planning on purchasing An Awesome Book for the holidays. On the bright side, I will be announcing a BRAND NEW BOOK later this week which I’m super excited about. It’s called “The Greatest Writer Alive” and will be here ready to ship for all your holiday needs.
Thanks so much for all your support, and in the meanwhile you can still pick up An Awesome Book of Thanks! over at amazon.

Hey all, I’m currently booking a US tour for March/April. It’s going to be a full scale event for the Harper Collins re-release of Awesome Book which means a lot of schools and book stores, libraries and places like that. But I’m really interested in painting murals and climbing trees and getting into adventures so if you have any suggestions for totally off the maps radical mind blowing places to read/share/inspire - on a boat, at a skate park, rock show, museum, college, protest, wedding, nature preserve, etc. please email me! That would be killer. Love you! - Dallas
Well, as anticipated, the schedule for the upcoming spring book tour is getting pretty nuts. Lots of schools, lots of bookstores, and lots of adventures. I’m going to try to paint a ton of murals this time out as well. Super stoked! Also in addition to HarperCollins being on board I’m excited to be partnering with the folks at Future Fortified to help raise awareness about global nutrition issues for children and families around the world.
I’ll post a full tour schedule as it comes together, and hopefully we’ll see each other on the road soon enough!
Today is the day - HarperCollins is rereleasing An Awesome Book! What an amazing thing! I’ve been doing morning TV interviews since 4am so I’m a bit lagged but I hope you all enjoy this video, share, read the book, support your local bookstore, tell a friend, and get inspired. Thanks to everyone who has made this entire journey possible, it’s been magical and just keeps getting better!
Hey all, I’m about to get on a plane and kick off a month of kids book touring across the US. This tour is super special because I’ve teamed up with HarperCollins a really great organization called Future Fortified to help spread awareness of for global nutrition and building a brighter future for kids and families all over the world. We’re calling it the I Can Change The Future Tour! I’ll be reading An Awesome Book! , painting murals, talking to kids and having a blast at elementary schools in Chicago, Atlanta, Minnesota, Miami, Nashville, Dallas, Ohio and a host of other stops along the way.
I’ll post a full tour schedule and tons of photos as I get them and meanwhile if you have anywhere cool we should be stopping by or if you just want to find us and say hello do it!
Touring with a kids book is amazing because you can make up all kinds of rules and paint on school walls and listen to kids talk about how they are going to make the world a better place. Inspirational!
This tour is ridiculously fun. Five readings this morning, plus painted a huge picture of magic dreams with a great group of kids. Antics abound. Have some downtime in Minnesota for the evening - come find me! Here’s a picture of us goofing off. Toughest children’s author in the library…
YOUTH OF
I’ve been on tour the past few weeks
reading books to children
in different schools
in different cities
in different states.
It’s been inspirational
to say the least
meeting them all
and watching those differences blend
into their faces and attitudes
like the watercolor give
in the geography
of highway mile markers.
Living in a city
built on a desert
and populated with generations
who couldn’t wait to escape their parents,
small towns,
or respective social constraints
it’s easy to spend your day never really knowing anyone.
Orphans.
It’s easy to forget about humanity
the further you stand from it
the further you build your house away from someone else
the thicker you pad the walls.
Not knowing who people are
or what they want to do with their lives -
only catching a glimpse of a shadowy figure
elongated against the landscape
through the lens of a camera
the jigsaw puzzle of an overheard conversation-
It’s only natural to stack the odds against the common good.
Not knowing how they plan to raise their children
to try and make the world a better place
and how they are just as scared as you some times-
it only strengthens the argument
for the unhindered spread of terribly sad futures
that will one day paint black the skies.
But from what I’ve seen recently
I recommend you take a moment
to step out of your day,
perhaps a weekend abroad
visiting with the locals
in a place you’ve
only driven past
and wondered.
The longer we live with the projections
of what life is like on the other side of the wall
the more disappointed we will be
when we scale it
armed to the teeth
and looking for someone to blame.
