It didn’t take us long
to build a machine
big and powerful
that roared through the sky
and bested the bird
at its own game.

Shorter still was the time
between when it was finished
and when we got so bored
with our handy work
that we decided to jump
mid-flight from its belly
for no real good reason
but it was there
and we thought we could.
